Nichrome has a slightly lower maximum operating temperature than Kanthal and operates best applications such as hair dryers, toasters, and kilns. Corrosion, Rusting, and Oxidation Resistance wire does not easily rust or oxidize, even in extreme environments.

Nichrome on the other hand comes from the nickel-chromium alloys that are generally used in temperatures that are below 1250 degrees Celsius. Kanthal is supposed to be mainly iron, with a fair amount of chromium and a small amount of Aluminum. Nichrome is largely nickel with similar or less amount of chromium than kanthal, and sometimes some iron. Some people can have allergies to metals, so that's a consideration. Nichrome behaves very much like Kanthal, but has lower resistance and heats faster. It is easy to coil and holds its shape well when wicking.
